CKDu (Chronic Kidney Disease of unknown etiology)

A chronic kidney disease that has become an epidemic for farmers in Central America, India, and Sri Lanka. CKDu is the second leading cause of mortality among men in El Salvador. Honduras and Nicaragua also have extremely high rates of kidney disease mortality.Unlike the kidney disease found in diabetes or hypertension, the kidney tubules are a major site of injury in CKDu, suggesting a toxic etiology. Doctors from Sri Lanka (Dr. Channa Jayasumana, Dr. Sarath Gunatilake, Dr. Priyantha Senanayake) have hypothesized that exposure to glyophosate may be involved in the cause of the disease. [5]
